(PINCKNEYVILLE, IL) — Two people face charges after a bobcat was killed in Perry County. Following a vehicle stop by a Pinckneyville Police officer on January 11th, a sergeant with the Perry County Sheriff’s Department who was assisting in the vehicle stop, noticed a dead juvenile bobcat in the bed of the suspects’ pickup truck. The two men told the officers they had heard there was now open season on bobcats. Knowing that bobcat season dates and rules had not yet been established, the officers contacted IDNR officials who seized the bobcat and a Ruger 10/22 rifle found behind the truck seats. The suspects face numerous charges related to the incident including possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card. They were taken to the Perry County Jail for processing.
