MAP Grant Funding Bill Passes

(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Senate joined the House Thursday and passed a bill to fund tuition grants for low-income students, but it’s unlikely to provide the intended relief soon. Governor Rauner has threatened to veto the Democrats’ version of a bill to fund so-called MAP grants and to provide operating money to community colleges. Rauner and the Republicans say there’s not enough money to cover the Democrats’ bill and they want to give Rauner the ability to move money from elsewhere in the budget to cover shortfalls.
