(SALEM, IL) — A 23-year-old Salem woman who was injured in a single-car crash early Tuesday morning in Centralia has been charged in Marion County Court with driving under the influence of drugs. Hayley Hammond was reportedly driving just before 1 a.m. Tuesday on South Elm Street when at Third Street she struck a utility pole outside the Irvin-Macz Funeral Home. The pole was struck with enough force that it was knocked down and across Elm Street, dragging the power lines as it fell. Hammond was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment. Following her discharge she was taken to the Marion County Jail and was formally charged in court with misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs and felony possession of heroin. She was also cited for alleged improper traffic lane usage.
