(MT. VERNON, IL) — According to the Mt Vernon Police Department, they are investigating the theft of a large number of gold colored $1 coins. Police reports indicate some of the coins have been recovered, but it is believed others have been used in this area. Law enforcement is are asking any businesses that may have had people changing these coins out for currency or have made purchases using these coins to contact the Mt Vernon Police Department Detective Division at 618-242-2131.
