Effingham, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced the results of Nighttime Enforcement Patrols (NITE) held during the late evening hours of Friday, January 2nd and early morning hours of Saturday, January 23rd. The patrols were conducted in Marion and Fayette Counties by ISP District 12 officers. Alcohol is involved in nearly 40 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois. NITE patrols are designed to keep our roads safe by removing alcohol-impaired drivers. However, when other violations are observed such as driving with a suspended or revoked license; operating a vehicle without a valid registration; safety belt violations; or no valid insurance, enforcement action may be taken. Authorities issued 17 total citations or arrests and 34 total written warnings during the patrols including 8 registration offenses, 3 driver’s license offenses, a DUI arrest, and 6 other alcohol/drug arrests. There was no occupant restraint offenses issued during this patrol. This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
