Effingham, IL – Illinois State Police District 12 Commander, Captain Kelly Hodge, Friday announced activity and enforcement figures for 2015. Troopers in District 12, which includes Clark, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Lawrence, Marion, and Richland Counties, answered 2,556 calls for service and initiated 16,319 incidents in the field during the year. In addition, enforcement figures totaled 9,574 citations and 8,812 written warnings, including 4,942 speeding citations, 207 DUIs, 1,252 seatbelt citations, 72 child restraint citations, 2,834 written warnings for speeding, and 399 criminal arrests. Troopers also assisted 2,531 motorists, conducted 4,407 Motor Carrier Inspections, and investigated 862 traffic crashes. Of those crashes investigated by District 12, 20 were fatal traffic crashes resulting in 21 fatalities. During the year, 7,116 citations and 3,991 written warnings were issued for “Fatal Four” violations. These violations are most associated with fatal traffic crashes and include Speeding, DUI, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, and Distracted Driving.
