(MT. VERNON, IL) — Two people were involved in crash involving a semi and a pickup truck on Southbound I-57 in Jefferson County shortly after 8 Wednesday morning. Illinois State Police say 37-year-old Kristina L. Johnson of Whittington was driving north on I-57 at mile post 89 when she lost control of her pickup truck on the snow covered roadways and slid into the median. Her truck continued across the median into the southbound lanes and struck a semi driven by 33-year-old Waldemar Ramos-Santiago of Laredo, Texas. Johnson’s truck hit the left rear of the semi trailer knocking the two rear axles out from under the trailer. After the impact, Johnson’s truck came to rest in the left lane of southbound I-57. The semi came to rest in the edge of the median and left lane. Both vehicles received heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Johnson suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Ramos-Santiago was not hurt. Johnson was cited for Improper Lane Usage. Traffic was diverted off of southbound I-57 for a crash investigation and scene clean-up for six hours for this and a fatality crash at mile post 84.
