Bill Would Cover MAP Grant Advances

(Springfield, IL) — One state senator says colleges and universities that cover the state tuition grant payments that needy students have been missing should be reimbursed. Senator Pat McGuire of Joliet filed a bill to set aside one-hundred-68-million-dollars to pay the need-based MAP grants that have been held up because of the budget impasse. More than three-dozen schools say they can no longer afford to front that money, but McGuire’s bill would guarantee them repayment for funds they’ve advanced.
