(VANDALIA, IL) — Felony charges were filed in Fayette County Court this morning against a 71-year-old Salem man, following a joint investigation by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Revenue’s Criminal Investigation Division. According to Annie Thompson, deputy press secretary for the Attorney General’s Office, Duane C. Engel was formally charged with Class 2 felony sales tax evasion between $10,000 and $100,000, Class 4 felony filing fraudulent sales use records and Class 4 felony computer fraud. According to Thompson, the charges are related to the Engel Brothers Corporation of which Duane Engel is President. Engel Brothers Incorporated is a Ford dealership in Farina that sells new and used vehicles. Thompson says Engel is next due in court at 10 a.m. February 10, in the Fayette County Courthouse in Vandalia for a hearing. She says more details about this case may be available for release at that time.
