(BUCKNER, IL) — A Buckner man died while trimming trees in Benton Wednesday morning. Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler says 48-year-old Todd William McWhirter fell 50 feet out a tree trimming bucket while trimming trees on the south side of Immanuel Baptist Church on North Main Street around 10:30. McWhirter landed on his back. Another employee from the tree service company went to McWhirter, but he was unresponsive. McWhirter was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Franklin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Leffler says it is unknown at this time if McWhirter had a medical issue that caused him to fall or if it was a work related accident. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at the Franklin Hospital morgue. McWhirter was not wearing a safety harness. The coroner’s office and Benton Police are handling the investigation.
