(CARLYLE, IL) — A 25-year-old former employee of the Warren G. Murray Center in Centralia pleaded not guilty Monday morning in Clinton County Court to a charge of felony criminal neglect resulting in the death of Center resident Todd Clementz. Christopher Duguay appeared in court yesterday morning with his private attorney Paul Storment. Duguay pleaded not guilty and has demanded a jury trial. The defense waived a formal reading of the charges against Duguay, who is free on $2,500 cash bond. In December a Clinton County grand jury indicted Duguay on charges of Class 4 felony criminal neglect of a resident at a state facility and Class 3 felony criminal neglect resulting in the death of Todd Clementz, a resident of the Murray Center. A coroner’s inquest in November found Clementz’s cause of death to be homicide and the result of a “punishment” shower that resulted in him choking on water that was sprayed into his face as well as on regurgitated food. Duguay is next scheduled in court on the matter February 17, for a status and pretrial hearing.
