Cocaine Contributed To Fatal Plane Crash

(Round Lake, IL) — The National Transportation Safety Board says the Round Lake man at the controls of a plane that crashed two years ago in Florida had cocaine in his system. The NTSB said the drug impaired 53-year-old Jeffrey Bonken and was a contributing cause of the crash that killed him and fatally injured his 15-year-old daughter as they were on their way to a spring break vacation. Bonken had radioed that he had run out of fuel, then crashed into power lines while trying to land on a highway about six miles from the St. Petersburg-Clearwater airport.
