(Cahokia, IL) — Five Cahokia police officers are being called heroes after rescuing two disabled people from a burning home over the weekend. Police found the home full of smoke when they arrived late Sunday night, then carried a 57-year-old disabled woman to safety, and dragged a reluctant 76-year-old man who uses a walker out from a back bedroom. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and the residents refused medical attention. Cahokia Police Chief Larry Purcell said, “We absolutely consider these officers to be heroes.”
