Emanuel Hits Rauner Over Pressure Tactic

(Chicago, IL) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel fired back at Governor Bruce Rauner Tuesday, accusing the governor of trying to hold Chicago’s public school children hostage as he tries to achieve his political agenda. Emanuel was reacting to Rauner’s statement that there would be no help for Chicago schools unless Emanuel helps to pass Rauner’s anti-union, pro-business reform measures. Emanuel said the state funding system for education is unfair to Chicago and said Rauner’s job is to find common ground on a budget compromise, not use children as pawns to achieve his ideological goals.
