(BENTON, IL) — Franklin County State’s Attorney Evan Owens Monday charged a Benton man for unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor that led to the death of an Opdyke man back in October. Owens says the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case as part on an aggravated DUI crash on Akin Blacktop that resulted in Snowden’s death. Seventeen-year-old Clay Kelley of rural Macedonia was charged a couple of days later with aggravated DUI that resulted in Snowden’s death on Akin Blacktop. Kelley was driving the vehicle Snowden and two others were in when it crashed into a home at the intersection of Akin Blacktop and Bessie Road. Owens added that as part of the investigation, the Franklin County Grand July returned an indictment against Johnathon E. Goddard of Bessie Road in Benton on Dec. 11 charging him with obstructing justice for providing false information to the a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy investigating the death and a large gathering of people where alcoholic liquors were dispensed and minors were present.
