(OPDYKE, IL) — A 22-year-old McLeansboro man was killed early Saturday morning in a single vehicle accident north of Opdyke.

According to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Release, Lucas D. Johnson was operating a pickup truck that reportedly struck a tree off of the side of Opdyke Lane near the Lynchburg Road intersection.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene while a passenger, 21-year-old Kailie N. Montgomery of Carterville, was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.

THE JCSO received a 911 call at approximately 3:10 AM Saturday with the JCSO, Jefferson Fire Protection District, Litton Ambulance, Air Evac Lifeteam and Jefferson County Coroner responding.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.
