(Chester, IL) — The Illinois Department of Corrections is preparing for flooding at the Menard Correctional Center in Chester. Officials have brought in over one-thousand gallons of drinking water and portable restrooms in case the water needs to be shut off at the facility. The National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi River near the facility will crest at its highest point since the Flood of 1993. The river is expected to crest on Saturday.
