(MURPHYSBORO, IL) — Federal, state, county and Grand Tower officials met with Congressman Mike Bost and representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wednesday afternoon to discuss flood predictions on the Mississippi and Big Muddy Rivers. Monday’s projected crest on the Mississippi River has been lowered from 49.8 feet at the Chester gauge to 47.5 feet. Corps officials say vigilance on flood preparation was still encouraged and evacuation is still being recommended at this time. Residents needed help with evacuation or sheltering should call 684-3137. Anyone evacuating is encouraged to notify the sheriff’s office at 684-2773 so you will be included on house watch patrols in the area. A request form is available at the sheriff’s office and online at JacksonCountyEMA.com. You can also check the latest road closures on that website. Remember, if you come across flooded areas, turn around, don’t drown. An emergency shelter is open at the Murphysboro American Legion for displaced residents.
