(Granite City, IL) — Layoffs are still coming to U.S. Steel workers in Granite City. A new deal between U.S. Steel and the Steelworkers Union won’t stop the temporary planned layoffs at their Metro East facility. Despite the contract, the Granite City workers are still facing layoffs because the facility is being idled. The shutdown and layoffs are scheduled for this weekend. It could last more than six months and could affect as many as two-thousand workers.
