(Edwardsville, IL) — A former Alton woman serving a life sentence for killing her two infant children in the 1980s wants Governor Rauner to grant her clemency. Attorneys for 56-year-old Paula Sims will tell the Illinois Prisoner Review Board next month that she suffered from postpartum psychosis, which causes delusions, as well as suicidal or homicidal impulses. She killed her daughters in 1986 and 1989, when they were weeks old. A similar clemency request was rejected by then-Governor Pat Quinn in 2006.
