(CENTRAL CITY, IL) — Local law enforcement is investigating a Sunday night armed robbery of the Dollar General Store in Central City, in which a suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect is described as a tall, thin, black male wearing camouflage pants and a dark hoodie. Right around 9:30 Sunday night, the suspect is reported to have approached the register and handed the clerk a $20 bill to pay for a soda, only to pull a handgun on the clerk as she went to make change. She stood back and the suspect took the money from the register. There were only two clerks in the store at the time and no customers as the store was preparing to close in about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported and the suspect is believed to have fled from the store on foot. Salem police brought their K9 officer to try and track the suspect. The dog followed the scent a few blocks south of the store, but it was ultimately lost at a point officers believe the suspect then got into a vehicle. Central City police were joined by Centralia police and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies in searching for the suspect. Anyone with information about the suspect or the robbery is asked to contact the Central City Police Department at 532-4779.
