MARION COUNTY — A 51-year-old Salem woman was airlifted Thursday night to a St. Louis area hospital, after she was injured in a two-car accident on Tonti Road at Illinois Route 37.

According to Illinois State Police, Doris E. Short was traveling eastbound around 5 p.m. Thursday on Tonti Road when she stopped at a stop sign at the intersection but failed to see a 2015 Chevy Silverado being driven southbound on Route 37 by 39-year-old Travis M. Gillett, of Salem.

Short reportedly began to cross Route 37 and was unable to stop her 1999 Dodge Durango before crashing into the left front corner panel of Gillett’s truck.

Short’s vehicle left the roadway on the southwest corner of the intersection and overturned in the ditch before coming to rest upside down. Gillet’s truck came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway. Short was airlifted by Arch to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the accident. She was cited for failure to wear a seat belt and failure to yield at a stop sign.

No other injuries were reported.
