SALEM — Fog is being blamed for a three-car crash Friday morning on Route 50 in Salem that sent a 34-year-old Salem man to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

According to Illinois State Police, Matthew McGee was westbound on Route 50 just west of Hoots Chapel Road as traffic was slowing due to fog. McGee reportedly failed to reduce his speed, causing his 2003 Dodge Caravan to crash into the rear of a 2004 Pontiac being driven by 18-year-old Lucas Probst, of Effingham. The impact caused the Probst vehicle to crash into a 2012 Cadillac being driven by 62-year-old Charlene Donoho, of Salem.

McGee was reportedly transported by ambulance to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and for driving while license expired. No other injuries were reported.
