Waukegan approves $1M contract for police body cameras

The City Council this week approved a $1 million, 10-year contract with Motorola Solutions to purchase 155 body cameras and related storage equipment for the video generated by the devices. The Lake County News-Sun reports that the city agreed to use more than $169,000 in Illinois Drug-Asset Forfeiture funds for the first year of the deal and the remaining nine years will be covered out of municipal coffers.

All recordings will be kept for at least 90 days and as many as 120 days.

The agreement calls for the equipment to be in the field by April.
