(NEW MEMPHIS, IL) — A two-vehicle crash late Sunday at Highway 177 and Fourth Street in New Memphis has claimed the life of a 20-year-old rural Okawville man, according to the Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss. Moss says he received a call around 10:30 Sunday night about the head-on collision and pronounced Richard Kavanaugh dead on the scene at 11:07 p.m. Moss says an official cause of death is pending toxicology tests. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department was first notified by Onstar of the crash around 10:20 p.m. Accident reports show Kavanaugh was traveling westbound on Route 177, approximately 200 feet west of Fourth Street when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by 53-year-old Susan Baum, also of Okawville. Baum was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
