(Belleville, IL) — St. Clair County board members voted Monday evening on a new contract with county jail guards. The union for the roughly 50 guards had already approved the three-year-deal which includes a two-percent raise this year and next year and a three-percent hike in 2017. Under the contract, newly hired employees will be civilians instead of sworn officers, a change that saves the county money on its pension contributions.
