(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon Parks and Recreation Department has announced a second successful season for the Aquatic Zoo Water Park. According to the release issued by the department, The 2015 Season surpassed that of the 2014 inaugural season by seeing a 5% increase in attendance. The highest day for general admission was July 18th with 1,088 persons visiting the facility from 11 A.M. to 6 P.M. The facility was open to the public for 85 full days of operation compared to 92 full days of operation in 2014. A grand total of approximately 52,500 people visited the facility in 2015 averaging 618 persons per day. George Bryant, Parks and Public Facilities Director commented, “I am extremely pleased with the public use and revenue generated during the first two years of operation of the Aquatic Zoo Water Park. A major contributing factor to the successful fiscal operation of an outdoor water park always hinges upon the weather. Both the 2014 and 2015 seasons were below average weather conditions containing a number of cool and rainy days. It would be interesting to see how much more attendance figures would soar if we were to have above average weather for the summer.” The number of season pass holders also surpassed that of the 2014 season. 2015 season passes reached to 700 compared to 664 in 2014. Season Passes will go on sale December 7th for the upcoming 2016 season at a discounted rate. A number of people taking advantage of the 10% Christmas discount was up considerably from last year and is expected to do the same for 2016.
