(ELKVILLE, IL) — The search continues in Jackson County this morning for a man who got away from sheriff’s deputies following a traffic stop in Elkville. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says around 8:25 Thursday night, deputies responded a motorist, identified as 43-year-old James E. Bailey, pulling two trailers with no taillights. When an Elkville Police officer found the vehicle, the officer initiated a traffic stop on Bailey at the intersection of Haulage and Lichliter roads. Police learned that the truck Bailey was driving was reported as stolen. Bailey was then taken into police custody, handcuffed and put in the back of a police car. Deputies arrived on scene to help. Moments later Bailey was able to open the back door of the police car and escaped from police custody. He ran into a wooded area. Officers began chasing Bailey, but were unable to find him. A search began involving several officers and a K-9 unit. Bailey is still at large. He was last seen wearing a long sleeve, orange colored shirt, possibly blue jeans, a ball cap and camo colored rubber boots. He is 6’ 4” tall and weighs 235 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
