BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois levee district president has resigned ahead of a vote to remove him from office. Metro East Sanitary District president Andy Economy faced removal on ethical concerns amid allegations that he failed to report more than $33,000 in work for the district performed at his auto body shop in Madison. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that he resigned Wednesday just hours before the Madison County Board was expected to vote on removing him from office. Economy has said he didn’t see a conflict of interest in repairing the district vehicles because he didn’t vote on the motions and the costs of repairs were assessed by insurance adjusters. Madison County Board chairman Alan Dunstan has said the 300-plus board members and commissioners will be reminded of proper procedures and conflicts of interest.
