(EAST ST. LOUIS, IL) — Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, has announced that two more people involved in a January drug sweep through the Centralia area have been sentenced in federal court for their roles in a methamphetamine conspiracy. Wigginton says 41-year-old David Leroy Altom, of Centralia, has been sentenced to to 6 and ½ years (78 months) in federal prison, 4 years’ supervised release, a $200 fine and a $300 special assessment for his role in a Conspiracy to Manufacture and Distribute Methamphetamine in Clinton and Marion Counties. Altom was ordered to self-surrender to the federal prison facility where he is designated for service of sentence. Arrested at the same time as Altom and 14 others, was 34-year-old Sara Rose Davis, also of Centralia, has been sentenced to 4 years in federal prison, 4 years’ supervised release, a $200 fine, and a $100 special assessment following her guilty plea in May to Conspiracy to Manufacture and Distribute Methamphetamine in violation of federal law. The offense took place in Marion and Clinton Counties. Supervised release follows service of the term of imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. Court documents establish that at least from the summer of 2012, through and including October 2, 2014, Davis obtain the ingredients necessary to manufacture methamphetamine, including pseudoephedrine tablets, and provided them to others to use in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Davis and Altom were included in an indictment with 14 others from the area, many who have also been sentenced to federal prisons, and others who still await sentencing. Information leading to the charge against Altom, Davis and others was obtained in an investigation conducted by the FBI, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team, and the Centralia Police Department. The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Kit Morrissey.
