(BENTON, IL) — Some new rules in the City of Benton will be affecting younger passengers of golf carts. During a special Benton City Council meeting last Thursday, council members approved amending the city’s golf cart ordinance to add the specifics of the Child Passenger Protection Act to the original ordinance. You are now required to put children under the age of 8 in an appropriate child restraint system and it must be secured. Children between the ages of 8 and 16 will be required to wear a seat belt. The change comes at the request of the Benton Police Department, who had been receiving complaints from residents about the safety of children riding unprotected in golf carts.
