(WEST FRANKFORT) — Illinois State Police continue the investigation of a crash that closed Highway 37 in West Frankfort on Wednesday.

22-year-old Michael Caraballo of Winter, Wisconsin, was driving a Volvo Semi northbound on Illinois Highway 37 and crashed into a utility pole while attempting to turn onto East Saint Louis Street at 1:08 PM.

The pole broke, bringing down Ameren power lines onto the roadway. Route 37 was closed for nearly 2 hours while power crews worked to restore electricity and ensure the safety of motorists.

Caraballo was cited for an improper turn.
