(MT. VERNON, IL) — A semi rollover occurred early this morning at the Mt. Vernon exit at mile post 80 of Interstate 64. Preliminary investigative details indicate a Semi, driven by 35 year old Jerry E. Parris of Byrdstown, Tennessee, was traveling westbound on Interstate 64 attempting to exit onto Illinois Route 37. The semi was carrying too much weight and had too high of speed to safely negotiate the ramp causing the driver’s side tires to leave the outside of the curved ramp. The semi, loaded with cattle, entered into the ditch and overturned onto its driver’s side. There were no road closures during this incident. Parris was charged with improper lane usage.
