(MT. VERNON, IL) — The father of a Mt. Vernon toddler allegedly beaten by relatives almost exactly one-year ago has filed for emergency no contact/no stalking orders Monday in Jefferson County Court against one of the people charged with the child’s beating and another relative. James Burris, father of Lukas Burris, filed for and received the emergency orders Monday against Kaysie Belmont and her step-father David Padget, after the court found good cause for the orders. Kaysie Belmont and her husband Michael Belmont were both charged in connection with the alleged abuse of Lukas that caused the child to suffer a stroke and various injuries. While Michael Belmont remains in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting trial on the charges against him, Kaysie Belmont is free on bond after pregnancy related medical issues resulted in the court lowering her bail. Both Michael and Kaysie are due in court tomorrow for pretrial hearings in their criminal cases for Lukas’ beating. Lukas was taken to the hospital unresponsive following the alleged beating, and remained in the hospital for more than a month. While he was ultimately released, he still does not have the use of his left arm and must wear a helmet almost all of the time due to his left sided weakness and many falls every day.
