(MT. VERNON, IL ) — A 35-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to 4-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, after he pleaded guilty to the lesser of two felony narcotics charges. Vincent Davis was arrested in August 2013 as part of a Jefferson County drug sweep that resulted in the arrest of 22 people. Davis was picked up on a warrant alleging unlawful delivery of a controlled substance — crack, within 1,000 ft of a school, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance — cocaine, within 1,000 ft of a park. He was ultimately charged in court with Class 1 felony possession of narcotics near a park and Class 2 felony possession of narcotics. Davis pleaded guilty to the Class 2 felony charge in exchange for the Class 1 felony charge being dismissed. He was sentenced to a concurrent 4-years in prison on a case from 2010, in which he was charged with similar Class 1 and Class 2 charges, with him entering a guilty plea on the Class 2 count in exchange for the more serious charge being dismissed.
