(DUQUOIN, IL) — City officials in Du Quoin and the Du Quoin Community School District have agreed on repayment terms regarding money given to the school district a few years ago to help pay for demolition of two school buildings. The Southern Illinoisan reports a series of agreements and addendums between 2002 and 2010 assigned the funds to be used to help pay for the demolition. But the contracts failed to specify repayment terms. The report went on to say that the school district would repay the money during a 20-year period beginning in 2010. The school district and the city agreed earlier this month to divide the sum into 15 yearly installments of $39,024. Since the language was very vague regarding the previous agreement, lawyers for both parties are working on another addendum that includes new language. If the school board and city leaders approve it, the deal begins immediately with the first payment due Dec. 31.
