(SALEM, IL) — The Marion County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a Salem man who was discovered deceased in his apartment Sunday afternoon. Family members had gone to the apartment of Richard W. Allison, 30, at the Lakewood Motel in Salem and discovered him lying on his bed, apparently deceased, and called 911. Coroner Troy Cannon pronounced Allison dead at 3:39 p.m. Cannon says specimens were collected and will be submitted for toxicology testing to determine a specific cause of death, but evidence from a preliminary investigation indicates Allison likely died as a result of a drug overdose. Salem Police are assisting in the investigation. The Rogers/Atkins Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family with arrangements.
