(Belleville, IL) — Emergency medical service providers are being denied use of the painkiller fentanyl by a state regulator. According to the “Belleville News-Democrat,” Dr. Savoy Brummer of Memorial Hospital ordered EMS crews to turn over their supplies of the potent painkiller earlier this year and ordered documentation of the use of the drug over a two-year period from 2013 to this year. A spokesperson says the order is due to a discovery of unauthorized tampering. Fentanyl is described as being 100 times more potent than morphine.
