(BENTON, IL) — A one-vehicle crash late Saturday night in Franklin County claimed the life of an Opdyke teen. Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says the crash happened around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Akin Blacktop and Bessie Road. Four male juveniles were traveling at a high rate of speed in a pickup truck on Bessie Road failing to stop at a stop sign and passing through the intersection with Akin Blacktop. The truck continued through the front yard of a home striking a tree and continuing through a modular home rolling over and coming to rest on its top. The driver and two passengers then fled the scene on foot. A third passenger, 17-year-old Isaiah Mikail Snowden of Opdyke, was later pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old driver was later found walking in the area. He was taken into custody on charges connected to the fatal crash. He is being held in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center. The other two occupants were also found and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The sheriff says the crash was speed and alcohol related. The crash is under investigation. Further arrests and charges are anticipated.
