Vets’ Home Undergoes Upgrades After Legionnaire’s Outbreak

(Springfield, IL) — It’s costing the state at least two-point-three-million-dollars to fix the water system that spawned an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at the veterans’ home in Quincy. Contractors are now monitoring the water supply and installing a secondary water treatment facility at the 129-year-old complex, the largest of the state’s four homes for vets. Twelve people died from the disease and more than 50 tested positive, but there have been no new cases for the past month.
