(EFFINGHAM, IL ) — According to Effingham Police, a 16-year-old girl was shot dead Sunday night on the south-side of Effingham. Reports say Kaylee Jacob was shot around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. Jacobs was taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, with preliminary results expected Tuesday. Police reports say a 16-year-old male was handling a handgun when Jacobs was apparently shot. The handgun in question had previously been reported to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department as having been stolen. Two male juveniles are reportedly in police custody in connection with the fatal incident. The Effingham Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Effingham and Fayette County Coroner’s Offices continue a joint investigation into the shooting.
