(East St. Louis, IL) — The East St. Louis teachers strike is in its third week. School district officials and leaders of the Federation of Teachers are expected to continue talks today with the help of a federal mediator. Meanwhile, teachers are getting a show of support with a visit yesterday from the American Federation of Teachers Vice President Mary Ricker. She wants those staging the walkout to know they have the backing of the national union. Teacher compensation is one of the sticking points.
