Deal Set On Rail Improvements In Springfield

(Springfield, IL) — Governor Rauner Friday announced a tentative agreement between the Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak that will lead to quicker service through the capital city. The deal will let work continue on high-speed rail improvements in Springfield along the Third Street corridor. It will also continue working toward the eventual shifting of passenger and freight traffic to the Tenth Street corridor. Residents along the Third Street corridor have been wary of plans to divert money away from creating a quiet zone for trains moving through the city there.
