(CARTERVILLE, IL) — Former John A. Logan President Mike Dreith will be paid $290,000 in severance pay, which equals nearly 20 months of full pay. That’s according to today’s Southern Illinoisan. The college’s Board of Trustees voted 5-3 Wednesday night to part ways with Dreith, who recently was a candidate for the president’s job at Dodge City Community College in Kansas, but didn’t get it. He also told a Dodge City newspaper that taking the job at John A. Logan was the “worst mistake” he ever made. There was also some tension between Dreith and the board over several matters including how to fix falling enrollment and the hiring of Larry Peterson to serve as interim vice president for student affairs and community education. Peterson was running the college in Dreith’s absence after Dreith was asked to step aside a couple of weeks ago. The board also voted Wednesday night to make Dr. Ron House of Benton interim president until a permanent replacement can be found. House, who holds a Ph. D in higher education administration from SIU, was the subject of an Associated Press investigation that found he improperly received $7,200 in travel reimbursements in the final year of his duties with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for trip between his home and Springfield. House says he was asked to repay those funds from the Office of the Executive Inspector General which oversaw the inquiry last year. House added that he has not paid back any of the funds nor has he been asked to pay them back at this point in time.
