(MT. VERNON, IL) — Local man Tom Gaither started a deer hunt in 2013 as a way to reach out to wounded veterans. In just two short years, the HOOAH event has grown from six volunteers to near 70 volunteers and has become a popular event in the area. A special parade and reception took place Wednesday in Mt. Vernon, presented by the HOOAH Deer Hunt for Heroes program. The bow-hunting event begins today and continues through Sunday in Jefferson County.
