(CARBONDALE, IL) — The city of Carbondale announced Wednesday that Gary Williams will serve as the city’s Interim City Manager. That’s according to a statement released Wednesday morning by city officials. Williams has been employed by the city of Carbondale since June of 2011. He is currently the city’s Assistant City Manager for Economic Development as well as the Acting City Manager. The Carbondale City Council will formalize their decision regarding Williams by voting on an ordinance to approve an Interim City Manager Employment Agreement during its meeting next Tuesday night at 7. The city council will also act on a resolution to direct Williams to enter into an amended employment agreement contract with Police Chief Jeff Grubbs. The meeting will be followed by a reception to introduce Williams and Grubbs to the public. Williams is replacing Kevin Baity, who stepped down earlier this month after a poor performance review.
