(BENTON, IL) — It looks like the city of Benton will be moving City Hall and the police department next door to the Hiramoti Building on West Main in February. The city has been negotiating with the building’s owner to acquire 6,000 square feet of office space to relocate city government on a permanent basis. The price the city is paying for the office space is not known at this time, but it was going to cost about $2 million to refurbish the current city hall or build a new one. Work is expected to begin in the coming months on the new city hall. The city is currently having the existing city hall appraised with hopes of selling it to someone who will want to make improvements to the building.
