(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Jefferson County board has called a special meeting at the courthouse on Monday night. The board will discuss major sewer repairs that are necessary after a pipe beneath the building collapsed last week. The floor has to be jackhammered to replace the pipe. With only one functional restroom, many have had to use portable facilities on the courthouse’s exterior. The cost of repairs, initially reported as costing up to $90,000, may now cost in excess of $300,000 according to Jefferson County Sheriff Travis Allen. The special meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
