(CARTERVILLE, IL) — John A. Logan College President Mike Dreith (Dreeth) recently failed to get the president’s job he was a finalist for at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas this week. The Southern Illinoisan reports today that Dreith has relinquished control of day-to-day operations at the college for the time being. College officials say interim Vice President Larry Peterson is running the Carterville college in Dreith’s place. The paper reports Dreith’s recent application for the job in Kansas left the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees feeling very concerned. Board Chairman Don Brewer says Dreith has not been running the college for about a week and a half. Dreith made the comment during his visit to the Kansas college that taking his current position was the “worst mistake” he ever made. It’s also reported that his home in Murphysboro is for sale and that he was asked by the board to temporarily step aside. Others at the college have been told Dreith is on “special assignment” off-campus. The board hopes the issue with Dreith is resolved when it meets Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. for its next meeting. Dreith’s signed his latest contract in late July. It runs through June 30, 2017.
