(CARLYLE, IL) –A 43-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Thursday in Clinton County Court to 4-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, after he pleaded guilty to arson in connection with a September 7th fire to a home in the 1200 block of South Cherry in Centralia. Jon Hansford has remained in the Clinton County Jail since his September 15 arrest, with bail set at $20,000. The warrant for Jon Hansford’s arrest was filed on September 11th, but was sealed until Hansford was picked up on the 15th. No one was home at the Cherry Street home when a passerby noticed flames through a window. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found multiple fires set in various locations around the home. They said at the time an accelerant was apparently used to fuel the fires, but firefighters were able to knock down the flames before it spread to the structure itself. The fire caused some smoke damage to the home itself. Centralia firefighters brought Hansford in for questioning based upon his actions at the scene of the fire. The case was ultimately handed over to the State Fire Marshall’s office for investigation, resulting in Hansford’s arrest and the charge of Class 1 felony residential arson. Hansford will be credit for time served, and will have to pay court costs.
